About IEEE-VBIT SB

IEEE VBIT STUDENT BRANCH:

The IEEE – VBIT student branch was inaugurated in December 2006 with a membership no of 42 students, two faculty advisors and a branch counselor. The branch has been assigned a branch code STB 65451 and school code 45893584. For further details visit http://ieeevbit.com/


HIGHLIGHTS OF IEEE-VBIT SB:
1.Nominated for the best student branch award for the year 2009.
2.Termed as the "VIBRANT" student branch.

4.Student’s from our student branch won the First Prize in All India student Project contest-2008 for their project ‘Vehicle Positioning and Navigation System Using GPS and GSM by Mr.Vamshi Krishna,Sri Ram Sharma,Y.Lava Kumar & Srihari which was hosted by IEEE-Hyderabad Section at Mekester Auditorium ,O.U  Campus.

6.Our SB activley participates in all the confreances and meetings held by IEEE-HYD section.

WEEKLY ACTIVITIES


The  VBIT-SB has been organising certain activities during weekends exclusively for the students of B.Tech., second year  so as to promote collaborative learning.




Event-1

On 6th and 7th of August, 3rd B.Tech IEEE members organised 2010-2011 academic years first IEEE-WEEKLY event. This was purely based on communication skills exclusively for the 2nd B.Tech students. It mainly consisted of three rounds, first round was group discussion(well known as GD), second round was debate and final round was Just A Minute (well known as JAM).

The main aim was 
-to sensitize students to play an active role in participation
-improvement of communication skills

Event:

We had about 52 students who appeared for the event. 

ROUND 1-GROUP DISCUSSION

Firstly all the participants were divided into uniform groups for this round.Then the top 4 scorers from each team were qualified for the next round   

 

ROUND 2-DEBATE

In this round the participants were divided into 2 groups each comprising of 12 students, at the end of which 12 participants made it to the final round.






ROUND 3-JAM (JUST A MINUTE)

In the final round students were given a minute each to speak on a specified subject. Other than the normal score participants were given an extra point for every 10 seconds they spoke(i.e., 10 sec - 1 point, 20 sec - 2 points,...).In case of a tie in the scores, the one who had a better command over the topic was given preference.

 


At the end of the competition 5 winners were declared.
